Active Alfie calls on all citizens to register to Vote.
Active Alfie is calling all citizens who are currently not registered to vote in the upcoming European & Local elections to get active, get moving and get registered to vote before the 1st of November.
The electoral register is updated once a year and if you are not on the register by the 1st of November you will not be able to vote in any of the elections for the following twelve months.
Active Alfie the figure head to the 50 ways to Active Citizenship was asked why is it important to vote?
“If the democracy that we all live in is to work properly we need people from every segment of society to take part in electing our leaders. If certain groups are not fully represented then their needs are less likely to be looked after and everyone wants to be looked after”
Active Alfie would like everyone to log onto his website www.fifty-ways.com and pledge to vote in the upcoming European and local elections as this is part of being an active citizen. He knows if you pledge to vote there is a better chance you will vote when it is voting day.
He was asked what we all need to do if we are currently not registered to vote?
“You need to check the register of electors and see if you are registered on it. The address to do this is www.checktheregister.ie. If you are not on the register or registered in the wrong place you need to download a form, fill it in and send it to your city our county council before the 1st of November”
